At a time when roads across the country are being ravaged by a prolonged whirlwind of floods, there could be no better news for our maintenance teams than, new equipment! The new equipment, which includes 18 tipper trucks, 5 motor graders and 2 street lighting maintenance trucks, was commissioned by the Executive Director Mrs. Allen Kagina on Friday afternoon at the Mpigi Station offices in Mpigi Town.
Speaking at the commissioning, the ED challenged the staff that are charged with operating the equipment to use it to maximize the quality and quantity of our output in maintaining the network. “One of our biggest challenges when we started out was the lack of equipment among others. That has now been solved as government has provided us with the resources and equipment to do a good job. We have no excuses”, she said.
The distribution of the equipment prioritised stations that did not receive in the last batch, while also strengthening some places. The motor graders will be going to Moyo, Mbale, Kampala, Kabale and the Emergency Unit.
The Director Road Maintenance Eng. Joseph Otim cautioned the drivers and operators against mishandling the equipment. “These machines are key to your job, without them, you have no jobs. You must do your best to not only maintain them well, but also make sure they do what they are intended to do, efficiently,” he said. The ED also used the occasion to introduce the new Director for Procurement Eng. John Omeke Ongimu to the media and the members of staff present.
