Launching soon: MV Sigulu ferry

MV Sigulu is now in the final stages of construction at Masese, Jinja dsitrcit. The vessel will provide safe means of transport to the communities of Namayingo, Lolwe and Sigulu Islands at no cost. The physical progress as of May 2019 is 95%.

Ms. Allen Kagina the UNRA Executive Director recently inspected ongoing works on the ferry which will on completion be Uganda’s largest passenger & cargo ferry on Lake Victoria carrying 300 passengers.

Overall, the project will positively impact the communities through increased volumes of trade, tourism and access to social services.

The vessel will connect Namayingo district to the Islands of Lolwe & Sigulu. Progress: 95%. The contractor, M/s Johs Gram-Hanssen A/S (JGH)- Western Marine Shipyard Limited Joint Venture has already finalized the steel works and has embarked on painting works and installation of electrical, propulsion and navigation equipment.

Key features include the hull, propulsion systems, wheelhouse, and sheltered passenger seating areas, crest rest room, a medical room and a cafeteria.
